Externship

Externships are typically held for one day during the week before the Spring semester begins and are offered in major cities within the state of Texas. An Externship visit usually includes presentations about the employer and career path options, a guided tour of facilities, interaction with alumni and young professionals, and the opportunity to "shadow" an engineer at work.

By participating in Externship, employers benefit from the opportunity to:

  • Educate and excite young students about engineering
  • Market the organization and possible employment options to future engineers
  • Build relationships with potential hires in an informal setting
  • Enhance presence in the Cockrell School of Engineering

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

  • Externship is open to all undergraduate engineering students, except those graduating in the Fall 2017 semester. Externship is particularly valuable to first and second year students.
  • Student must be registered with ECAC.
  • Student is responsible for providing his/her own transportation to the host employer site.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students and employers must have an account on the ECAC System to participate in the Externship Program. Once Externship employers are confirmed, students submit a resume to the sites for which they wish to visit. Students are matched with one employer based on academic discipline in order of resume submission (i.e. application date and time). The student is obligated to participate in the program once matches are made. See Externship Program Timeline for specific dates.
