Copier Hard Drives Containing Your Personal Information

Did you know that copiers and printers have hard drives just like your computer?  Think of all the documents you have copied, printed and scanned recently.  Is there anything you wouldn't want to share with a hacker?

Check out this great news story on YouTube from a New York City TV Station - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC38D5am7go

This is a great reminder that ALL hard drives in computers, copies and printers must be destroyed before they are sent to surplus or returned to the vendor for lease or warranty return.

UT offers a disk shredding service and your IT staff can help you remove the hard drive and get it to ITS for destruction.  For more information see http://www.utexas.edu/its/hddestruct/

As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any IT Security questions or concerns.  My contact info is available on the UT Directory.
