UTBox Cloud Data Storage Service
UT now offers Box Enterprise Service (UTBox) for all students, faculty and staff. UTBox is a cloud hosted data storage service similar to Dropbox. Unlike these other services, UTBox meets the security requirements for UT Category 1 data. Dropbox and others do not and should not be used for UT data.
To get started with UT Box:
- Go to: http://utexas.box.com
- Select "Continue" to login with your UT EID.
- Review the Box Quick Start guide - http://success.box.com/best-practices/box-quick-start-guide/
- Get Box Sync installed on your computer by your IT Staff or via https://utexas.box.com/settings/sync
- Get mobile apps by visiting the Apple or Android store on your device
More in depth information is available at the following sites:
- UT Overview: http://www.utexas.edu/its/cloudstorage/
- UT Help: http://www.utexas.edu/its/help/cloudstorage
- Box: http://success.box.com/user-resources/
- Help is also availble within Box when you login.
Box group folders may also be setup for departmental and research groups. For more information, please contact your department IT staff or the Cockrell School IT Service Desk, service.desk@engr.utexas.edu.
There are a few uses that are not well suited for UTBox:
- programmatic access - e.g. storing or retrieving real time data sets immediately to the server
- direct mounting of file space - e.g. mapped drive
- Database files like, Microsoft OneNote notebooks or Outlook .pst files.
Note: Box Sync may provide a work around in some of these situations
