Instant access to MSDN-AA resource now available!

The Cockrell School of Engineering, as a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance, can grant access to Microsoft platforms, servers, and software developer tools. This software may be installed on departmental lab machines and is available for faculty, staff, and students to install for instructional and research purposes.

All of the software licensed under the MSDN AA Program is available for students, faculty, and staff. To access the software library, students must enable their EIDs.

For staff and faculty who experience access issues, please contact the Service Desk for assistance.

Austin Exchange Upgrade and Mailbox Move

The following email is being sent out to all Engineering faculty and staff with Austin Exchange Mailboxes.

Austin Exchange User,

You have been identified as having an Austin Exchange Mailbox.  Please be aware that the campus Austin Exchange Server will be upgraded from Exchange 2007 to 2010, and your mailbox will be moved to the new server in the next few weeks.  You will be receiving an email from ITS before and after your mailbox has been moved.  Benefits of this upgrade include, 2 GB default mailbox size, updated Outlook Web Access that works with more browsers, and improved performance.

 

When?

Mailbox moves will happen after hours starting July 20 and should be completed by July 29. During your mailbox move, email will be delivered.  Depending on your email client, at the end of your mailbox move there may be a short 1 minute interruption in your access to email.

 

What do you need to do?

ü  Windows PC - Outlook Users – No action needed.

ü  Mac - Outlook 2011 – No action needed.

ü  Mac - Entourage 2008 with web services – No action needed.

 

·         Mac - Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 without web servicesYou MUST upgrade.

o   To check which version you have, go to the Entourage menu and choose About

·         Mac - Apple Mail – You will need to verify your configuration.

Surveystation Upgrade Complete

The Surveystation update is complete as of 6 pm, 7/9/11.

The Surveystation server - http://surveystation.austin.utexas.edu is offline for an upgrade.  During this time you can submit IT requests directly via email - servicedesk@engr.utexas.edu or by calling 232-2486.

The service will be online for on campus use by approximately 5 pm on Friday 7/8.

Mandatory Laptop Encryption

Recently, all UT faculty and staff received a notice regarding mandatory laptop encryption from Kevin Hegarty, the University's Chief Financial Officer.

To meet this requirement, you should be working with your departmental IT staff.  They should be trained and ready to assist on the appropriate timeline.

For the Engineering Dean's Office, many of your laptops are already encrypted.  The ITG will be contacting those who are not yet encrypted to schedule the next steps.
