Powers gets highest College research award

     Larry W. Lake, chair of the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, and holder of the W.A. (Tex) Moncrief Jr. Centennial endowed Chair in Petroleum Engineering received the prestigious Lucas Gold Medal from the Society of Petroleum Engineers. This is the highest technical award conferred by the Society and can only be given once to any individual. The medal recognizes Lake's contributions to reservoir simulation and geological characterization. The work of Lake, his students and his colleagues in this field have formed an important part of new methods for recovering oil and gas from reservoirs more efficiently. Candidates for the Lucas Gold Medal are drawn from industry and academia worldwide.
