Tom Baker is chairman emeritus of Energy Future Holdings Corp., formerly TXU Corp. He was previously vice chairman of TXU Corp., and prior to that he served as chairman and CEO of Oncor Electric Delivery, TXU’s regulated transmission and distribution business.

Baker has a distinguished 36-year track record at TXU, having held leadership positions in generation, utility operations, finance, customer service, rates, and regulatory affairs and public policy. Except for a three-year period when he served as a nuclear missile launch officer in the U.S. Air Force, he has spent his entire career in the energy industry with TXU, culminating in key high-level roles.

Baker began his career as a plant engineer with Dallas Power & Light in 1968. He was elected vice president and then senior vice president of TU Electric and TU Services in the late 1980s. In 1987, he was elected to the board of directors of TU Electric and was made principal financial officer of Texas Utilities Company.

He is the past chairman and continues on both the Engineering Advisory Board of the Cockrell School of Engineering and the College of Natural Sciences Advisory Council at The University of Texas at Austin. Baker is on the boards of Children’s Health Services of Texas, the Children’s Pediatric Research Institute at Southwestern Medical School and the Circle Ten Council of Boy Scouts of America. He is past president of both the City of Dallas’ Park and Recreation Board and the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce.

Baker graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He has been married for 47 years, and he and his wife Nancy have two children and six grandchildren. In his spare time, Baker enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
